Pillars of Practice: The 3rd Biennial Building Children's Nursing for Africa Conference 2017

March, 28 - 30 2017 saw the Child Nurse Practice Development Initiative, in collaboration with the Red Cross War Memorial Children's Hospital (Western Cape Government) hold the third biennial Building Children's Nursing for Africa conference. This year the theme was "Pillars of Practice'.

Mr Hillary Lubuto, a lecturer at the Lusaka School of Nursing, Zambia, became the most recent member of the team from Lusaka to spend time with the Child Nurse Practice Development Initiative in Cape Town through a three week educator internship visit in February.

Ms Lenah Menyatso, Head of the Department of Child Nursing at the Bamalete Lutheran School of Nursing was joined by lecturer Ms Kelebonye Johane, an alumnus of the Child Nurse Practice Development Initiative, and Ms Rita Tumotumo from the Ministry of Health in Botswana at UCT for a week of valuable information exchange.

Mrs Sandra Roodt Retires: We Say Goodbye to a Champion for Children's Nursing

Mrs Sandra Roodt, Head of Nursing at Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, retired at the end of May 2016.  Mrs Roodt was appointed as Head of Nursing in 2006. At a celebration tea on May 18th, Mrs Roodt was presented with a certificate in recognition for her advocacy and support for children’s nursing training and practice.
